September 12 and 13, 2015 – Ukrainian National Museum Open House

The Ukrainian National Museum beehive will open September 12 and 13, 2015! Calling all talented, creative artists, inventors, and designers in Chicago and beyond to help us build our beehive by submitting designs for the beehive competition. The best designed beehive will be displayed in our folk arts exhibit for a year. The rest of the beehives will be displayed on the museum grounds as a temporary exhibit. Architecture, style, and design should be in the Ukrainian traditional style. Installation of the beehives will be on September 12 from 9a.m.- 11a.m. Results will be determined by popular vote on September 13 at 6p.m. All interested in participating please email curator@ukrainiannationalmuseum.org.

Other attractions at the UNM beehive:

Honey House: Indulge your sweet tooth at the “Honey House” with honey tea and honey cookies (medivnyky). Volunteers are welcome to help at the “Honey House”, bee helpers will be provided.

Beehive Workshop: Get crafty at the pottery workshop painting your own mug and decorating dolls. Other fun and exciting crafts for adult and little bees alike! Volunteers welcome to help!

Bees Nest: Visit the bees nest to expand your mind and library with many Ukrainian and English books on various topics!

Brilliant Bees: Visit the Brilliant Bees for interesting stories. For example, about finding Petro Prokopovych, who invented a luxurious lifestyle for the bees which is still used today. In 1814 he invented the framework of the first beehive, which you could open, observe, and gather honey without harming the bees.
