Author Volodymyr Mula will give his presentation in Ukrainian.
The events in Ukraine during the early 20th century resonate with us even today. The book “Wayne Called Me” tells the story of the famous hockey player Wayne Gretzky. It features unique photographs and stories of the families of exceptional hockey players of Ukrainian origin, providing a glimpse into the country’s atmosphere during that time. Many of these players’ ancestors were quite intimidated and didn’t disclose their Ukrainian heritage until 1991 when Ukraine gained independence.
Volodymyr Mula, the writer and director, has used this book as the backdrop to create a groundbreaking documentary film called UKE. This film, which took the world by storm in 2020, chronicles the triumphs of Ukrainian fighters for independence through Mula’s lens.
