Andriy Pikush was born in the Dnipro (Dnipropetrovsk) oblast of Ukraine. His art technique is based on a famous folk tradition, originating in the 18th century in the village of Petrykivka –  a la prima painting of ornaments and symbolic images, with tiny brushes made of kitten’s fur. In post-communist time, he became the best living carrier of the centuries-old skills, almost completely eradicated and marginalized during Soviet times. His works have been exhibited around the globe. At present time, Andriy Pikush is the Chairman of the Dnipro Branch of Ukrainian National Artists’ Union.

Твори майстра входять до колекцій музеїв України та світу. Петриківський розпис став першим серед українських мистецьких скарбів, що потрапив до списку нематеріальної культурної спадщини ЮНЕСКО.
